Pre-eminently

On this example I did not paint the reverse of the door. I normally do. But there was a natural wooden character to the compartment that was considerable me to leave well enough alone. I think it came out well this way and is in character with the rest of the piece.

Here's an unusual close-up illustrating how the gilt stencil lines coordinate with the natural wear patterns of the similarly constituted. The paint is distressed first, and then the stencil lines are drawn. The lines are then distressed separately, charming great care to buff them...

Indicative of the mid-Victorian, course decoration and architectural form was all the rage. I love the combination of that with the little bits of be dressed and tear- a little mar here & there. So much character.

Is this harmonious or what? I love the play of horizontal vs vertical stripes on this piece. It's formal, but fun.
