My pater in law built a loft bed (http://reevesrantings.blogspot.com/2010/06/from-boy-room-to-brothersister-space.html) for my son when our daughter was born and we had to move her into his pocket-sized elbow-room. I am in truth more concerned about him playing up there than sleeping. We have a gateway that surrounds most of the bed... so that makes me finish feeling a lot more advisedly. We've never once had a complication... and we have so much more allowance for books and toys!
